The Days of the Week (los días de la semana)

This learn Spanish grammar lesson is on the Spanish calendar. In Spanish-speaking countries, the week begins on Monday.

el lunes Monday
el martes Tuesday
el miércoles Wednesday
el jueves Thursday
el viernes Friday
el sábado Saturday
el domingo Sunday

Notes:

The days of the week are not capitalized.

The days of the week are all masculine.

If a day of the week already ends in –s, then you do not change the form in the plural. Only the article changes from "el" to "los."

los sábados Saturdays
los domingos Sundays
los lunes Monday

If you include "el" with the days of the week, it takes on the meaning "on."

No juego al tenis el lunes. I don't play tennis on Monday.
El juego es el jueves The game is on Thursday.
No cantas los martes. You don't sing on Tuesdays.
Tengo clases los miércoles.
I have classes on Wednesdays.
Hay una examen el viernes.
There is an exam on Friday.

The Months of the Year (los meses del año)

Just like the days of the week, in Spanish months are masculine and are not capitalized.

Use the preposition en to state something in a month.

Mi cumpleaños es en febrero. My birthday is in February.
Ella perdío cinco libras en el mes de abril. She lost five pounds in April.

The Four Seasons of the Year (los cuatros estaciones del año)

la primavera spring
el verano summer
el otoño autumn/fall
el invierno winter

Note:

Articles are generally used with the seasons.

En Michigan, llueve mucho en la primavera. In Michigan, it rains a lot in the spring season.
Prefiero estar en México cuando es el vierno. I prefer to be in Mexico when it's winter.
